MUSIC IN SPAIN

FLAMENCO

Flamenco, strongly influenced by traditional Andalusian folklore, often associated usually the gypsy people. Could be partially descended from the Moorish music VIII to XVII centuries. Influences of Byzantine church music and music from Egypt, Pakistan and India may have played a role in shaping the music. However, most scholars believe that flamenco music is a form of platform or stage of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, like tango, fado Rebetiko or, despite admitting possible influences of these sources.

The first serious references are perhaps in the "Letters Marruecas" Joseph Gallows 1774. Its origin as a public performance was probably in Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera, Triana and Utrera.

It has three main forms: singing, dancing and guitar
